A wondrous city is hidden in dunes, encircled by sand all around.
Inside you will see, oh!, the whispering creaks and fountains that sparkle so proud…
The women who weave pearly bids into hair, the children who laugh as they play,
The men, who work hard to preserve their land and rest at the end of the day.

It’s mighty walls are, Oh, so high, the riches without end,
So day and night the wary guard keeps watch before the sand.

One night, from the distance, a woman appeared, the shine of the stars in her dress,
In sand, effervescent in light of the moon, no mark has been left by her steps.
She came to the gate, and without a word, the guardsmen were now at her whim,
So taken they were by her bottomless gaze, untroubled, they let her come in.

Her song was enchantment; it drifted inside, in homes through the windows and walls
It spoke of the hidden, mysterious things, It spoke not to ears but souls.
She walked through the city, and all those she touched, be they a woman or man,
Would smile in their sleep, and, come morning sunlight, their eyes will not open again.
The wondrous city is buried in sand, abandoned and hidden from sight.
Wherever a traveler comes through the dunes, they fear the rumored blight.
And no one alive knows what happened that night, or why all the people are gone,
But sometimes, in darkness, on windless a night, they hear a mysterious song…
